Man who seconded Barack Obama's 2008 nomination stumps in NC for Mitt Romney

When Artur Davis stumped for Democrat Larry Kissell in Charlotte in 2006, he was a rising Democratic star. The Alabama congressman was vice chair of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee. An African American with a law degree from Harvard, he was an up-and-comer.

In 2008, he was the first congressman outside Illinois to publicly back then-Sen. Barack Obama, who would become a confidant. He went on to second the nomination of his fellow Harvard law graduate at the Democratic convention in Denver.

So how did the 44-year-old Davis come to campaign in North Carolina Thursday for Republican Mitt Romney?

After losing a 2010 bid for governor of Alabama, Davis moved to suburban Washington to practice law. Last May, he announced he was switching parties.

"I made a decision that on every single issue we’re debating in the country right now, what Republicans were saying made more sense to me than what Democrats were saying," he said by phone during a swing through eastern North Carolina.

"I saw a Democratic solution that always amounted to 'Let's take more money from people that are successful and grow the footprint of government... That became the two-pronged, all-purpose solution to every economic problem."

When running for governor in 2010, Davis was the only member of the Congressional Black Caucus to vote against President Obama's health care bill. He joined 33 other Democrats, including Kissell.

Coincidently Thursday, the N.C. Democratic Party launched a new anti-Romney web site: MittAmerica.com.

I wonder what he thinks he will get?

I give Artur Davis some credit here. At least he's man enough to admit he's not a Democrat ... unlike Kissell.

This guy Davis is a disgrace. By now in his political life he needs to know where his political views land. He's clearly trying to play both sides which ever will benefit him. You cannot trust people like that. Obama has the same views he had 4 years ago. What changed Mr. Davis when you enthusiastically endorsed him? It's easy to be on the side of the winning team...but you know you're real friends when the going gets tough.

Let's just say lots of people are waking up like Davis.

Wow...Uncle Thomas? A disgrace? Useless as Confedate money? Thank goodness we are seeing people (regardless of the color of their skin) wake up to the fact the big government solutions/policies don't work. It's amazing as soon as an African American becomes a conservative someone pulls the tired, old race card. Wake up....while we still have racist people, it's not about racism. It about big government and failed policies. When the tick becomes bigger than the dog, the dog dies.... Obama has created such an uncertain business climate with this class warfare non-sense. If we get the economy going, we all benefit. Re-elect Obama, expect the next 4 years to be as dismal as the past.....

Sounds like someone is gearing up for another run in Alabama...

I've seen the light too. I just haven't switched my party affiliation. Romney is the only chance we've got. Another four years of this horseshit and I hate to think what kind of mess we'll be in.

Good for Davis. He has become an
anti-hetrophobe enlightened intelligent and ditched the soddomite Kenyan illegal who has done nothing whatsoever but spend spend and waste trillions while homosexualizing America and the military plus promote deadly revolution in the arab states killing and injuring millions. Why? Thats obvious because they have a 100% cure for homos and a100% success rate.
Zero homo and HIV AIDS rate in Arabia for the past 1300 yrs.
Perverts tried to pass it off as genetic but arabs proved differently.

Bush cant hold candle to the revolutionary tyrant who is now in Syria killing people. Where are all the AIDS and HIV warnings since Obama was crowned? Has AIDS vanished or being hushed?

GO CHIK FILLA

GO BILLY GRAHAM

NO HOMO MARRIAGE IN NC and 42 other states. HAHAHA

I heard Mr Davis speak. He has changed parties but he was always conservative backing smaller govt, less tax and power to we the people.
To many come to Washington and forget what brought them there and join the leadership that sometimes lead them over the cliff. Davis retains the ability to think for himself and what is best for the country. We need more like Autor Davis.

Those who vote along party lines are not thinkers. We need elected officials that read the bills they pass consider and research the consequences and vote accordingly.

Real thinkers would reduce party politics to campaign chatter and not bring it to the floor.

Among the other ridiculous comments made above, the one about Obama having the same views he had 4 years ago is a hoot! He has the same views, but he LIED about them to get elected 4 years ago. Back then, he was against gay marriage, against raising taxes, yada, yada, yada. He is now showing all his true marxist positions, and Artur has enough sense and guts not to go down the road of marxism just to remain a democrat. Artur's move proves that the leftist Democrat party has no tolerance for a moderate or conservative thinker in its ranks, you must be a dedicated leftist/marxist to hang with the liberals.

As to reading the bills before voting on them, I seem to recall that the Health Care Bill was 'pass it in principle, then we'll write the details'. Surely, no one read the 2000+ pages before they voted.

When more people can see this obama is toast.

I agree with you. The democratic party are a set of extreme leftist. You can't make it being a moderate.
