McCrory to announce Jan. 31 -- but not in Charlotte

Former Charlotte Mayor Pat McCrory finally plans to kick off his gubernatorial campaign Jan. 31 in Greensboro, according to a campaign aide.

The Republican has made no secret of his plans for a rematch against Democratic Gov. Bev Perdue.

He already has nearly matched her in fundraising. Campaign aides have said he raised $2.5 million compared to her $2.6 million. Polls have shown him with a consistent lead.

The N.C. Democratic Party this month launched a new web site attacking McCrory, including videos from a campaign tracker.

According to the aide, McCrory is expected to hold a late afternoon kickoff at Greensboro's Oriental Shrine Club.

I like Pat, but let's face it President Obama and his Political machine along with Bev. P, Mayor A. Fox and the DNC being in NC is just too much Democratic Fire power to overcome. Pat, it's going to be worst than before.

The man could not carry his home district- what in heavens name makes him think he can win-- other than a highly active ego-

Pat's announcing there because he grew up in that county - Jamestown. He's a nice guy but if he wants any of the 100,000 teacher votes in this state he had better start doing damage repair his party has done to them!

Last time he only appealed to Charlotte/Mecklenburg's greed and fear of Democrats. He did many good things in Charlotte as mayor. As a Democrat, I hope he can his campaign can focus on doing good things for Charlotte AND North Carolina.

Last time Pat was a victim of the straight ticket vote -- you know the button for those who go by the label and not the content.

Paddy's finally going to drop the other shoe, huh?

What a load off my mind. Maybe now I can get some sleep, instead of staying awake at night worrying about whether or not he's going to run for governor.

The only thing Mayor McCheese has done for the last 3 years is whine about how bad Bev is, while he may not be wrong, what will HE do? He is an immature brat...

It's just like republicans to support such a corporate welfare loving jerk as Pat McCrory. And tell me what he did for years at Duke Power? ... and now what does he do at Moore and Van Allen?

So he announced that he's going to announce? Slimy politicians - what an unbearable bunch of people, all of them!

So it'll be Pat McCrory or Bev Perdue one more time this coming year? That just means looking for a 3rd party candidate one more time. Is Mike Munger running again?

Go away Pat. Get a real job.

Voted for Perdue last time. I debated to the last second who to vote for. I know McCrory and know he is very clean and has avoided scandal for decades. Thought he was great to get Charlotte a voice in Raleigh. Went with Perdue because of her stance on teachers.Disgusted with her performance. Teachers got slaughtered. She made some really bad decisions with her campaign finance.
McCrory has my vote. His chances are much better this time.

Maybe this time there won't be record turnout with people that have never voted before voting for a catchy slogan and empty hype...those Obama straight tickets 4 years ago cost him the election. If he gets elected this time around...maybe Charlotte will get its first beltiway completed before Raleigh's gets it's fourth...

8:29 - do you seriously believe Pat McCrory is going to help the teachers in this state? REALLY???

So the posts regarding McCrory not showing up for work at (1)the law firm that he is suppose to do some type of PR for and (2)the local power company were he had an office for many years were quickly removed. Is The Observer already whitewashing Pat's famous "Don't Work-Make Money" lifestyle.

I may not always agree with McCrory but he WILL get my vote! Heck, a dawg would get my vote over Bev and Obama!

@9:15 no I dont think McCrory is going to help the teachers. Nor did Perdue. The difference is he didn't make it his number 1 campaign issue. Will he be anti teacher no. Are teachers screwed regardless yes.
Are teachers a top priority for me yes. Are they for the general public. No. Is either one going to do anything for teachers no. Ok next issue...
Most important to most people and now me considering teachers isn't either of their top priorities... Getting charlotte equitable resources in Raleigh. Hands down that will be McCrory.

Does Bev have some serious legal and ethical issues? Yes
Will people vote for her regardless....yes.
Does McCrory have a clean record. Absolutely.
I voted for Bev. Very disappointed. Sadly I know her chances of being re-elected are very high despite her very obvious involvement in some major campaign finance violations. I know there are morons that pull straight tickets in both parties who have no idea who they are voting for. But how someone who does research and knows the candidate they support is obviously involved in some seriously unethical behavior... How do you punch the button for someone like that?

The Republicans already blindly over-ride everthing Bev Does. Theres no way I could vote for a Republican for governor in that situation.

NO way I would vote for any Republican. They have made NC a JOKE of a State. Less government for whom? THEY are the real liars. My vote and hundreds of other votes got for Democrats any Democrat. I don't trust or vote for LIARS and that's what the Republican party has become!

Young Child to Pat McCrory, "what do you do for a living sir?". Pat to young boy, "I have invisible jobs at big companies which frees me up to travel the State and embellish my non-existant record of nothingness". As Mayor I made $30K a year but somehow managed to maintain a huge home and awesome lifestyle. Life is good!
