Enquirer: DNA tests show Edwards is the daddy

The National Enquirer, which has been all over the John Edwards' story since breaking it over a year ago, today claims DNA tests have proven that the former Democratic presidential candidate is the father of his mistress's baby.

In what the tabloid calls a BOMBSHELL WORLD EXCLUSIVE!, it says Edwards has secretly undergone a paternity test, and that it proves he's the father of Frances Quinn Hunter, Rielle Hunter's daughter who was born in February 2008.

The paper says lawyers for Edwards are "privately hammering out" child support payments. It cites "multiple sources" that they don't name.

Rielle Hunter, with daughter in tow, appeared before a grand jury in Raleigh on Aug. 6. Prosecutors are looking at whether Edwards misused campaign funds in any payments that may have been used as hush money.

A lawyer for Edwards could not be reached this morning. [UPDATE: Raleigh attorney Wade Smith, among those representing Edwards, declined to comment.]

Edwards has denied he's the father. In a statement last year, he wrote he had "not been engaged in any activity of any description that requested, agreed to or supported payments of any kind to the woman or to the apparent father of the baby."

The Enquirer last year published photos it alleged showed Edwards holding the baby at the Beverly Hilton Hotel.

Now he can ditch his 5 yrs older fat wife who lost him the 04 election refusing to lose weight use makeup or wear anything but drab clothing while stuffing her face at Wendys and marry the good looking slim ex-movie actress daughter of a wealthy Ft Lauderdale attorney who owned a big horse ranch.

Is this still news anyway?

Am I the only one who wonders why she brought the baby to the hearing - babysitter anyone? Or sis she want the photo op?

Rielle is no beauty either...but Ill bet she SOAKs his ass with child support!

Remember, there are two Americas, his and ours. What a dirtbag. Remember John, there is another innocent human involved in this...your baby. Just shows all PI lawyers are dirtbags with no moral compass. And if he could only have been elected, how great would that have been.

August 12, 2009. A big day in TCO's history: The day where "news" from The National Enquirer is credible enough to splash as the main story on TCO site.

Way to go Observer. That's some great journalism there.

Since when has The National Enquirer been a legitimate journalistic source?

What's the difference between a lawyer and a herd of buffalo?

Answer: The lawyer charges more

The Enquirer broke the original John Edwards story, just like TMZ broke Michael Jackon's death. The fact that the original Enquirer story was proven true adds some level of credibility.

Hey Observer:

According to the Weekly World News, aliens from outer space are retiring in Florida.

You guys better get on that!

When it comes to exposing the truth about John Edwards, The National Enquirer is the only legitimate news source out there. Everyone else covers for the creep. Hey, how did Edwards get HIS job at UNC? Where is the investigation into that? NC Democrats have used the university system to support out of office democratic "leaders" for decades.

Jim, I'm sure this breaks your heart, as you were covering Silky Pony throughout the campaign like a love-struck teenager.

You know what's really sad? That the National Enquirer is now doing the work that the mainstream media REFUSES to do.

If the Observer, and other papers, want to know why they've made themselves irrelevant...exhibit A.

Hope little John-Boy Edwards let Ms. Hunter get on top while he co-created THEIR lust-child; after all, he surely @#$%-ed up his politcal career, his marriage - and just about anything else he cherished!

By NC law, I think Ms. Hunter and child can rather easily attach themselves to 1/3rd of his net income / wealth until "da kid" is 18 ... It can stretch by court decree - and I'm sure it will - thru a college education.

=:(

This ain't gonna be no simple "Look, kid, here's 300-400 bucks a month - now shut up and get lost!" settlement.

Whether John and his ailing wife like it or not - in monetary terms - 1/3rd of their estate is now - or soon will be - Ms. Reille Hunter's .............

If John Edwards if the father, he should own up. No one deserves to grow and be denied by their own father. There is a lot more at stake here than John Edwards' reputation. There is a child involved that deserves to know the truth.

Actually, the sad fact is that the news media has been so gutted of quality journalists by the greedy, profit hungry corporations that own them, that yes, the Enquirer is indeed becoming the place for actual journalistic legwork........
so sad.

Yet another example - the first victim of any political campaign is the wife and family.

I'm just curious...exactly what campaign trail is John Edwards on? It looks like his campaign is over, and this story belongs pretty much where it was; The National Enquirer.

Now we all know why he built his mansion in Chapel Hill, a whole wing for his new love child and Hunter. That's sweet of ole Johnny boy. i have to say he still gets the nod over Sanford in the total dirtbag ranking, but it's a close call.

"Since when has The National Enquirer been a legitimate journalistic source?"

Since the point in time when the MSM started caring more about sucking up to politicians than they did about reporting the news, no matter how embarrassing. Say what you want about the National Enquirer, but they do not shy away from reporting on stories no matter how potentially bizarre or potentially embarrassing to those in power.

Let me begin by saying I believe this to be true and I'm truly disgusted with John Edwards for what he is putting his wife and family through. Tragically, this may not even be the worst of it all. The sex tape and Andrew Young's vendetta tell-all may even be worse.

But, you must realize the NE broke this story because they are dealing with low life scum who jump at the chance to be paid for their story. Do you not realize this is the first time there have been multiple "sources"? Everyone has, undoubtedly, heard from Rielle the test was made -- and all tried to cash in, including and especially Rielle herself. These people are the lowest of scum but I don't know what word that should be.

I'm broken hearted for his family, they have to deal with this bitch forever now, or at the very least pay her to stay away.

No real surprise that a first rate ambulance chaser would prevaricate about his lust child.
