Rival tells Harold Johnson: 'Stay out of our district'

Tim D'Annunzio didn't wait long to target the latest Republican in the race for the 8th District congressional seat -- former WSOC TV sportscaster Harold Johnson.

"Voters in our district ... should be offended that a candidate who has never been a resident of this district is attempting to represent them in Washington," D'Annunzio said in a news release.

"We don't need a member of the biased, mainstream media representing our interests in Washington. Our community deserves better than that. What we need is someone who knows how to create jobs and get this country back on track to economic stability.... Mr. Johnson is an outsider who thinks his sports casting background will win him votes. Ironically, the vote he won't get is his own. My message to him is clear - stay out of our district."

Johnson announced his candidacy on Friday and said he'll move from Statesville to Cabarrus County in the 8th District. Both men hope to unseat Democrat Larry Kissell.

Asked about D'Annunzio's comments, Johnson said, "Ive always taken the high road and the high road is going to be focusing on jobs helping folks in the district get back to work."

D'Annunzio, of Hoke County, has invested $300,000 of his own money in the race. At least two other Republicans -- Hal Jordan of Charlotte and Lou Huddleston of Fayetteville, have also announced.

Gotta love it. The big right wing windbag hates competition and will fight his own for his own personal gain. Let's fan the flames and keep these tighty, whity righties scraping at each other so Democrats can stay united and continue to turn this country around.

Anonymous said...

Sue Myrick got elected while living in NC-12.

Mr. D'Annunzio should read the Constitution's requirements for serving in Congress rather than trying to invent his own.

Anonymous said...

Gotta love what? Driving the state and the country into complete and total failure? Hey, great job Democrats! You're really fixing those right wingers who seem to think accountability and lower taxes seem like good ideas. Please, you are a fool.

Anonymous said...

GO Harold...YOU got my vote, buddy!!!

Anonymous said...

Wait, Democrats drove the state and country into complete and total failure? Have you been asleep since 2000? And right wingers are all about taxes, but accountability? Ha! Someone's a fool, alright...

Anonymous said...

1. Oh yeah the democrats are really turning this country around. Turning it into a socialist country. 2. As far as D'annunzio is concerned though, sounds like he's scared before the race has got off to a good start. By his statements about Johnson I'd say he's pretty well cooked his goose.

Like this guy is some 8th district lifer? He was born in PA, lived all over the place...god only knows what is in his closet. He is just mad becuase he thought he ws going to buy th nomination and now he just found out that he will be lucky to buy 2nd place!

To Anon 11:42:00 AM

Regarding the state you are clueless. The Dems have been in power in NC for the past 17 years. Unfortunately you can't blame it on Bush (even though it's very tempting)

Anonymous said...

Am I crazy or is this D'Annunzio character playing fuzzy with his math? He claims to have lived in Hoke County for 30 years. According to his website he was born in 1958...making him 51 years old. Therefore, he would have lived elsewhere for just 21 years. he grew up in PA, and worked at the Kennedy Space Center in Texas after serving in the Army.

Just trying to figure it all out. Not sure he is telling us everything.

As a 20 year vet of 8th and 9th district campaigns...I just want to know who the political guru is that told him it was a good idea to come out swinging like this against Johnson. Gotta be some hack who can't find a real job.

P-I-T-I-F-U-L!

Not that Johnson needed it, but this single "press release" just ended the D'Annunzio campaign.

(1)Attacking someone for not living in the district....read the Constitution! (2) Harold Johnson knows more about the western part of the 8th district than D'Annunzio could ever hope to know.
(3) Claiming that a RETIRED SPORTSCASTER is somehow part of the left wing media???

Give me a break....grasping at straws is one thing, but publicly admitting you are doing it is another.

DOA-D'Annunzio campaign. Hope you didn't pay your brilliant advisors yet!

I can't vote for you "big guy" because I don't live in the district but I have relatives and friends that do. Givem hell Harold

Brian Williams said...

This is awesome! I want to move to that district just to vote for him. As a kid, I looked forward his sports reports as much as I did Patrick and Olberman on ESPN.

I wouldn't have a dog in the fight as a moderate, but someone seriously needs to give this guy a lesson on what not to say. haha.

Did he think the people in Statesville didn't see Harold Johnson's mug for like 30 years on Channel 9? He's not exactly hated and I would say one of the most recognizable faces and voices in the Charlotte TV market in the last 30 plus years.

BTW - I am sure glad Hillary Clinton knew the New York area as a child and grew up there before she became a senator! Or did she spend most of her years in Chicago, or was it Arkansas, or was it DC? hahaha. insert sarcasm!

Go big guy!

What a clown Harold Johnson is.

Anonymous said...

Hah, didn't take Tim long to take shots him. The only respectable candidate in the race is Huddleston - he can and will beat Larry Kissell

Never trust a guy that has a last name ending in a vowel. Especially if that same name has an apostrophe.

Give me a break Anonymous, you are not sure I am telling you everything? and you refuse to sign a name? I came to NC by way of the Army in May of 1978. Left for awhile after the Army to work at the Kennedy Space Center in Florida, not Texas. So far Anonymous, you have exhibited the liberal qualities of being confused, then speculating instead of investigating, and finally the use of incorrect facts by thinking that the Kennedy Space Center was in TX. Anonymous, you go on to attack me for not knowing that the Constitution allows "The BIG Guy" to run in a district he doesn't live in when in fact I said nothing likes that. I pointed out that he wouldn't be able to "vote" in the district he is running in and said nothing about him not being allowed to. Anonymous, I think you are a liberal and will vote Democrat anyway. If I was 'The Big Guy' and had supporters saying they liked me as much as they liked Keith Olbreman I would be asking them to keep it quiet or people will figure out that I am not really a conservative at all, and didn't really have much support from conservatives who are really upset about the country being fooled in the last election by an empty-slogan-based, slickly-packaged, Teleprompter reader.

I think Harold has been VERY KIND. Did you not see his repsonse in the artice. It is this D'Antonio guy that is stirring the pot. That is what desperate folks do. There is a big diffence in issues of a metro area like those surrounding Concord as compared to those rural issues Mr. D'Antonio is used to

I'm sure the generations of D'Annunzios from Cabarrus County are well versed on the local issues.

In fact, I believe Hezekiah D'Annunzio was one of the founding citizens of the County.

And who among us hasn't stopped to play on the banks of the D'Annunzio river that provided power for D'Annunzio Textiles back in the '30s.

Here's everything you need to know about D'annunzio...

http://www.npr.org/blogs/secretmoney/outside_groups/tim_dannunzio/

He's nothing more than a leech off the mitary industrial complex who will do everything he can to defend his gracy train. Harolds, larry, or anyne else would be a better candidate than this thug.

See 'Zeitgeist: The Movie' if you want to elarn more.

what's real funny is that both D'Annunzio and Johnson are both from the Philly area. Should we begin screaming 'Rocky...Rocky...Rocky..."

Anonymous said...

Yes, the Eastern part of this District is VERY different from the Western sliver. It's like night and Darrell Day, another Republican entrant.

What I LOVE is you Banking Hub Republicans and Cabarrus County Presbyterian preachers telling US in the 8th what we need. An ancient sportscaster from somewhere else versus one of the many military industrial complex McCain businessmen running against the regular guy mill-worker, CONGRESSMAN Larry Kissell.

I heart you all. Especially Mike Steele for annointing the black guy as a "Young Gun" already, even before Robin Hayes recruited his geriactric fallback after Mike Minter passed. If ONLY Robin Hayes wasn't his own Campaign Manager last time... Oh, he was.

Hey old guy! Welcome. We called you the "Gray Ghost" in the 80's, so what the appropriate term now? DOA?

Not sure mentioning McCain as an ally is a very good idea. You want more illegals? McCain was a poor choice for the party that I once loved dearly but is fading fast.

Like another poster said, it is not a good idea for candidates to get involved in conversations on a blog.

Of course McCain is from here. I mean he was born in Panama or somewhere, but he is white. Kinda.

And Hawaii is like what, the third world?

Vote Howard Johnson. He read basketball scores for 26 years.

What don't you fake REPUBLICANS get? The WSOC "sportscaster" was recruiteed by fake Republican, pro-CAFTA Hayes just to reduce his DEBT after Carolina Panthers' Mike Minter said HELL NO.

Your new head, the BLACK GUY, Mike Stelle recruited Lou Huddleston. Don't mess this up with your stupid local issues betweeen a guy that made jobs in NC-08 like Tim, and a guy recruited by the guy that lost by ten points. Let's stick together and vote DARRELL DAY!

Anonymous said...

Tim D'CrAzIo---we like you candidacy...but that press release was a bit too vitriolic against our buddy "Big Guy" Johnson

Anonymous said...

I just wish you "anonymous" Republicans had half the balls of Tim D'whatever.

He's the ONLY recruit we have beating Larry Kissell in fundraising. The Mike Steele black guy is a HUGE disappointment, and this Robin Hayes old guy recruited to retire his debt is no better.

Tim D'whatever is a proven candidate that already ran campaigns against John Kerry as a Swift Boater and ran campaigns for John McCain as an American Against Crazy People that may or may not be from here.

Get used to it. Rich people that live off the Government dole run this stuff and may or not be from here. Vote Tim D!

Robin Hayes paid him to move his business here with your tax dollars. 'Nuff said liberal media.

Tim, I appreciate the heck out of you NOT being handled and posting what YOU THINK.

Thank you Sir. You have my vote.

Anonymous said...

NO! Lou Huddleston is the NRCC pick.

This is stupid.

He's African American and Kissel can't count on any more AA votes since voting against President Obama on socialism, and for Senior Citizens of all color, so we have to vote for the "young gun" Lou Something.

Sorry Tim, Mike Steele sez so.

Hey to Salisbury or wherever that other guy the white people want lives.

Embarrassed yet? I am. Will be a D next time the BOE opens.

Harold Johnson all the way. He is a man who understands what the people are seeking. I have not seen him dump $300,000 of his own money in a campaing, nor will he. We need common people who understand the foundations of this country. Harold Johnson is that person.

Anonymous said...

What an arrogant angry sob this D'Annunzio is. He says in his attack on Harold Johnson "to create jobs and get this country back on track to economic stability" Name 1 job you created D'Annunzio. Way to go angry man, attack someone in print what a total loser you are. I wasn't sure who I was going to vote for but now it is clear that I will vote for ANYONE but you.

Anonymous said...

As a life long republican I am appalled by your comments Mr. D'Annunzio. I would like more information but you are certainly making it difficult to cast a vote for you.

Anonymous said...

After reading all of these posts then going to all 6 of the GOP's websites in this race I have to say Tim D's is the only one I will consider voting for. GO TIM!!!!!!!

And yes I do live in NC-8

Anonymous said...

What exactly did Mr. D'Annunzio say that was either factually wrong or in appropriate. I'd trust a successful businessman who actually has created jobs over a retired sports anchor, especially one who doesn't even have history in my district. There is a word for those people, its called carpetbaggers. How can an aged sportscaster possibly know how to represent the people of the 8th? He certainly can make his case, but I would consider it very fair game early in the campaign.

Personally, I wouldn't vote for the guy if I could, but some of the comments here are just plain silly.

Anonymous said...

First this out of control blowhard attacks Johnson via the press, then he blasts the press as being liberal on this blog and then attacks an anonymous poster and says he thinks they are a liberal and will vote Democrat anyway. Very nice, we see you will pick and choose who you represent if elected. He then continues his tirade and attacks Johnson again. Thankfully his idiotic comments will prevent him from even winning election. Keep shooting yourself in the foot. Unbelievable.

hy ya'll attacking Larry's top challenger? He raised more money.

The old guy from WSOC just started. Tim has been running against Big Spender, No Results Hayes' recruited Mike Steele's African American pick for months. If Mike Steele is a sore loser, so be it. He can can go back on welfare like Lou Huddleston if he don't like it. Marketing is fun.

Why the white guy not even from here all of a sudden? Didn't Mike Steele make Lou Huddleston a YOUNG GUN on the hawt fund-raising track?

Racism is funny.

Lou Huddleston IS the GOP nomineee. What is the "gray ghost's" point here other than racism?

If the tainted Washington GOP establishment supports Huddleson, chances are that he is not a conservative. It would still be great to see these men state and debate their positions, chances are anyone would be better than Larry, who voted with his leftist party 96% of the time.

Jim, working for the Charlotte "NOT SO OBSERVANT" Observer and your past articles shows that you don't do your work in it's entirety either.
