Huddleston to D'Annunzio: Time to bow out

Republican Lou Huddleston today called on 8th Congressional District rival Tim D'Annunzio to leave the race, saying "he hasn't shown the disposition and the temperament that I believe voters would expect from someone who wants to be their congressman."

"If Tim can't change the way he is he ought to bow out of the race," Huddleston told the Observer.

D'Annunzio spokeswoman Lauren Slepian says her candidate has no intention of doing so.

"Americans are looking for a representative who will fight for them in Washington," she said, "and Tim's not going to back down."

Huddleston's comments were the most pointed public criticism yet by any of the six Republicans in the May 4 primary. It comes on the heels of a flap at a weekend candidate forum in Fayetteville.

Candidates drew cards with random questions. When Huddleston of Fayetteville was asked if he supports eliminating several federal agencies (as D'Annunzio does), he replied without mentioning D'Annunzio. When D'Annunzio tried to respond, organizers told him that according to their ground rules, he couldn't. The party chair grabbed his microphone. He walked off the stage.
"When you walk off of a stage because you're not happy about something ... you're walking away from voters, you're disrespecting voters," Huddleston said.

Slepian pointed to a D'Annunzio campaign poll that shows Huddleston's support in the low single digits.

Again, anyone who believes that the "end times" are near should not be in public office.

The fact that the Observer and the GOP are scared of him confirms my support for him. I used to be a democrat, but now will be independent. The democrat party is now the party of Karl Marx. Like the Observer, they will be put on the trash heap of history in the next two years.

Anonymous said...

I'm also one of those who votes against whomever the Observer endorses, or in this case, trying to smear,

So the guy in LAST place, is calling on the guy in FIRST place to resign.

Yup, probably makes sense in CO world.

D'Annunzio is not electable with his mixing of politics and religion at the level he has mixed them. I don't know much about Huddleston but I think you should check out Hal Jordan. He's a strong conservative and almost beat Jim Black before Black was put in jail. Also, the only reason D'Annunzio is in the lead is because he's been campaigning the longest and has spent a ton of his own money. Hal Jordan will be the best candidate to go up against Kissel.

Huddleston is the only one that had the guts to stand up and call this guy out. It's about time. BRAVO

Please don't quit, D'Nuttzio! We need you for the entertainment! Can you imagine a full-length campaign with this guy!? Priceless.

You should read what this nut wrote on his blog this morning before the first Jim W hit piece came out. What a nut, thinks God is real and has a "plan" for his life.
What an idiot, and he is defending the Constitution, and fighting for it because it's worth it, what an idiot.
Hope this guy keeps doing what he promised.
You should look at his post, christswar.blogspot.com

The challenge is in defeating the socialist agenda of the Dems, without resorting to the fascist agenda of some (a minority) of the ultra-conservative Repubs. I'm a life-long Republican but I'm worried that the far extremes are now hijacking BOTH parties!

John said...

Here's a news flash for you: Most people believe that God is real and that He has a plan for our lives. Also, defending the Constitution requires a defense of religion since the first amendment guarantees that right! I guess you, like many in the Obama administration, have neglected to actually READ that document!

It makes me wonder exactly who's likely to be on the Dem ticket this fall.
Liberals would be sure to endorse whatever primary candidate they think would be the easiest to beat come autumn.

Wow. The Democrats are the party of Karl Marx? Heck, if I'd known that I would have voted for them in 2008! Time for a party with a revolutionary program that gives American workers real power and not a party (like the two now in power)in league with corporations trying the fleece the people! The Democrats are right of center as far as I'm concerned and all you Tea Party types are over their with the fascists!

Anon @ 7:06, understand that the Disturber (and especially this far left blog) is concerned mostly with running D'Annuzio out of the race.

He's not the type of candidate I'd likely vote for, but if you judge a guy by the people who choose to be his enemies, he looks like a great choice.

Oscar Harward said...

Hal Jordan certainly should be the choice of Republicans. He is ‘right’ on the issues. He lost to Jim Black by only 30 votes, as a candidate in the NC House. Jim Black’s District was carved out by the majority Democrat Party to protect Jim Black.

Check out Hal Jordan as a Christian family man, a successful business with integrity, and a solid Conservative who can win. Hal Jordan’s professional, personal, and political life is a winner for the Republican Party, the NC 8th. Congressional District, and for America http://www.haljordanforcongress.com/.

Dr. Horrible said...

Working Stiffler, given that one of Hitler's enemies was the US, I somehow think you'd be more likely to vote for him on that basis. :)

Dr. Horrible said...

Oh, and Stiffler, anyone can believe whatever they want in Cuba? Try organizing a house church there. Fidel's rotting corpse will sentence you to prison quicker than you can say "Che es mi amigo." There are still severe limitations placed on the Catholics, to say nothing of Protestants.

Working Stiff, having lived in Miami and worked with many Cuban refugees, I'd suggest you move to Cuba and find out how "free" it really is.

Why do you think Cubans crowd onto leaky, overloaded boats to reach the US? Why did East Germany put up barbed wire and guard towers to stop people crossing to the West? They weren't there to keep people OUT... but to keep peopl IN. Thousands risked their lives to get away from what you embrace... think THAT one all the way through!

Awww, it's actually kinda cute the way the same D'Annunzio staffer/supporter keeps posting over and over again supporting the crazy man. Really makes it looks like he's got support doesn't it? Too bad that one crazy person that keeps posting can't vote that many times too :(

Anonymous said...

Yes, I am sure that person could use the help of ACORN to learn how to vote more than once.

This proves that Huddleston is the man for the job. As for the polls, they were conducted by another campaign so of course they are going to be skewed. In Fayetteville Lou has lots of support and is gaining support throughout the district. I have seen him and many town hall meeting settings and he is obviously the candidate that we need to represent us in Washington. He can keep his temperament and is a respectable man who will stand up for the people of North Carolina. No doubt Lou Huddleston has my and many other residents vote.

Anonymous said...

Kudos for Huddleston for standing up for what he believes in. Congressman need to be well behaved. Nothing is ever gained in government due to anger. We must take the anger and turn it into motivation to get things done for the people. Way to go Lou.

Congressman D'Annunzio?? I think not.

Apparently the leading candidate there by virtue of his self-funding ability, d'Annunzio made waves last month for wading into the comments section of the local newspaper - and now his former manager, Jack Hawke, seems to have had enough with d'Annunzio's lack of message discipline, with d'Annunzio storming off the stage during a recent candidate forum and also with his postings to the end-times-focused "Christ's War" blog.

Anonymous said...

Does Stam represent Wake County, are they in the 8th district? I like Huddleston but he would not defeat Kissell in November.

Endorsements come from people from the outside who agree with the candidates platform. A lot of times people are endorsed from people outside of the district. Stam represents people of our state and understands many of the problems that span across our area. If you are looking for endorsements from inside the district look to active community leader Mike Minter or the three members of the Fayetteville city council members who endorsed him (or the former Governor!). Sorry to get involved in this but I remember in college we talked about the importance of endorsements and why candidate and people choose to endorse others. Thanks for letting me keep up my two cents! Keep up the good work candidates...we need you to help get our area back on track!

Will D'Annunzio refuse to collect his "government" paycheck? Taxpayers and voters will be paying his salary, as he's against government, why does he want this job. Can any of his supporters answer that?

Skip Stam is the Republican leader of the State House and if you believe the polls he is very likely to be the Speaker of the NC House come next January. That makes him one of the top Republicans in the entire state! That's a pretty powerful endorsement to me.

I would love for my next Congressman to have the ear of the next Speaker of the State House. To put people back to work and to solve all of the complex issues facing our state and nation we need more cooperation between the state and the federal government. A Congressman who is the trust and support of the Republican leader in the State House sounds like a great thing to me!

Hey anonymous. To say Justin Burr is beloved anywhere is to say a 24 year old bail bondsman that puts crack dealers back on the streets of Albemarle for a living is a Republican party platform.

The little boy got lucky, had no competition, no vote. Just bought an office like his daddy has bought him everything in life including his little enterprise freeing hookers and drug dealers.

He still picks fights on Facebook like all 24 year olds. I wish D'Annunzio had punched him in his face instead of telling him what we're all thinking.

Justin Burr, beloved. In a mirror maybe.

Justin Burr fights for the people he represents. Look up his voting record and the bills he has supported. "From Lowder's account, it didn't take Burr long to respond as he hollered out, “Hey, this man doesn't want my support and has just called me a liar.”

At this point, Lowder said he pulled Burr to the back of the room as D'Annunzio and Burr's father had words.

“Justin was really mad. I'd never seen him that way,” Lowder said."

He's a CHILD! A criminal proponent, and from all accounts a bona fide TOOL.

Did everyone see the picture of D'Annunzio this morning with the article? He lloks like he is trying to pass a kidney stone.

Nothing funnier than D'Annunzio folks talking about raising money. Timmy doesn't raise any money he just spends the money he made off government contracts he got from his buddies, in other words our tax money. Timmy didn't get rich because he had a great producat or was a great businessman. He got rich because his old buddies in the military gave him government contracts. I don't have a dog in this fight, but being in Congress would be old hat for Timmy, he'd still be eating at the government trough...

Just think Lou, if each of your "anonymous" online supporters gave one dollar, you'd have one!

Whats up with the Jordan guy being so mean? Isn't this between Timmy and Lou?

"Where's Tim?"

If the Observer smears him, then I will definitely vote for Tim. Hopefully by the time November rolls around, the Observer will be bankrupt and out of business anyway.

Why would you voe for someone just because the newspaper smears him? That is an uneducated vote my friend!

Will Tim be attending the machine gun social or sending Vernon Robinson? Where's Tim?

"Anyone but Tim D'Annunzio for Congress" on FaceBook. Wow, these folks are serious. Forget "Where's Tim?"
Go with "Where's Tim's support?"

Earth to Tim, come in Tim.

Lou will surely get my vote! Standing up to Tim has made Lou a front-runner in this primary.

Is D'Annunzio still in the race?
