Dulin: Foxx 'overly partisan' in convention comments

Republican city council member Andy Dulin hit Democratic Mayor Anthony Foxx today over comments Foxx made about the prospect of landing his party's national convention.

Charlotte is vying with Cleveland, Minneapolis and St. Louis for the 2012 Democratic convention.

Today's Observer picked up Foxx's comments to the National Journal this week. In advocating for Charlotte, the mayor said bringing the convention to the South would give the party "an opportunity to take the fight right into the heart of where folks have always thought the Republican Party had an advantage."

"With this one quote, the Mayor has changed dramatically my trust of his true intentions," Dulin said in an email to the Observer.

"Is he selling Clt to fill hotel rooms and fill our restaurants and bring economic vitality to Clt, while advancing our entire city’s brand or is he playing along with dem politics to advance his stature with the Obama admin. Is he in this for all of Clt or is he really trying to bring 'the fight into the heart of where folks have always thought the Republican Party had an advantage.' Which is it. That’s a very legitimate question."

Dulin prefaced the comment by saying he has supported pursuit of the convention as "a bi-partisan effort to advance Clt as a city and not Clt as a battle ground for The Mayor’s political advancement."

Foxx said "absent context Andy raises a fair question."

"But with context I was making the point that the Democratic National Convention had not been in the South since 1988. I mentioned that was one of many reasons Charlotte would be a good choice."

While the convention would be an economic boost, he added, "I really doubt the economic benefit analysis, which all the cities can claim, will be the only consideration."

Check the edit of the first word in your last paragraph because the conversation moves in another direction.

I think we can all agree that this Dulin clown is pretty much an idiot and that this boy Foxx is nothing more than a talking head government figurine.

Hey 2:41 you forgot to include the Observer who is the Charlotte equivalent of Jerry Springer.

From your post, I think it is pretty clear who the idiot is...

Obviously Foxx is an idiot... Charlotte has been run by the dems for as long as I can remember, except for the occasional token republican mayor.

This only works if the Mayor's party pays all of their bills. This has been something that the party does not do or pay in a timely manner. Restaurants and hotels get stiffed a lot by these conventions, check the records. This does not happen when the opponents of the Mayor's party have a convention. They pay their bills.

Anonymous 2:41 purposefully used the word "boy" in front of "Foxx"; and bigotry it is. Such abuse is inappropriate. Back to the subject ... Anyone who has ever led or been part of an effort to pursue an economic development opportunity in a competitive environment knows that you emphasize opportunities; and whether or not Charlotte as one city happens to be a bit Democrat than Republican does not change the GOP bent of the majority of NC lawmakers at the state level and in Congress. Add to this fact what is probably a natural reluctance of the Democratic Party to host in a more Republican than Democrat state; and Mayor Foxx has yet another good reason for presenting his sales pitch as he did. To do less is to concede and to forfeit the Convention going elsewhere. Yes, talk politics all day, support whatever/whomever you please; but if you're going to enter a race, including vying for a political convention, you must emphasize everything you've got to offer including the strategic advantages for choosing your proposal over all other bidders. Mayor Foxx is on target; and to do less is to waste the monies already spent in promoting Charlotte as the host city.

Dulin is right on target to challenge what looks like a Trojan Horse for union contracts and grass root organization for a failing Presidency

Thank you Mr Obama, Harry and Nancy for turning NC Republican for the first time in 100 years. We will be enjoying the fruits of gerrymandering for many years to come. By all means, lets invite these wingnuts here to give them a big old thank you.

I don't see a failing presidency at all. that's simply colored by what you want to see.

I'm holding the NAACP accountable if the convention comes here and insist no delegate stays anywhere in SC.

Afterall, they still have a boycott going on, right?

Mayor Fixxit? You'll lead the charge, right?

Riiiiiight....

Foxx is a Democrat, right? Dulin's a Republican, right? What does Dulin expect Foxx to do...spout a bunch of Republican rhetoric when trying to land the Democratic National Convention?

FOXX IS A RACIST !!!!

Yes, Dulin and Foxx are both idiots. Neither is doing enough to land a major economic opportunity for the City. Foxx needs to bring along his Council colleagues to help land this deal. Dulin needs to stop acting like a whining, petulant child. Neither seems capable of doing what is required.

Since when has Charlotte been a GOP stronghold?

Most of its problems today (and the reasons so many of us have weighed our options and left CharMeckNC) stem from long-time Dem control.

I see reading comprehension is at a premium in the Observer comment section. foxx is talking about the South as the GOP stronghold. Anyone who can read would know that.

And the guy who called him an idiot truly has no clue. You don't become student body President of Davidson and get an NYU law degree as an idiot. Anthony Foxx is one of the most impressive individuals I have ever known.

Where else is being called "boy" associated with bigotry? Like they say the smeller is the feller.

Foxx is confused. He must be talking about his suburban private school area where his pampered kids are enrolled for 30,000 a year thats Republican.

Did anyone else watch the City Council last night from last week? WHAT A JOKE! They were voting but NONE know what they were voting for! They had to re-count and restate FOUR times!

AND THESE ARE THE PEEPS THAT REPRESENT US?

PLEASE get these people OUT in 2011!

The Democratic National Convention is a highly partisan event. The decision as to where the convention will be held is going to be made by a committee composed of Democratic partisans looking at 2012 electoral strategy. Any economic and public relations benefits Charlotte might derive from hosting the convention are secondary, at least as far as the DNC members making the decision are concerned. Andy Dulin really needs to buy a clue.

The socialist engineering DNC and Obama are nothing but liberal faggot lovers who have torn down America and the modern world. They are headed to hell in a handbasket for eternity. Is thia what this city wants to host? Its over in 2012 anyway.

And to think the military will be now nothing but a faggot hangout for bull dykes. Male hag twinks will never join. Soddom and Gommorah burned and so will America under this demonic leadership.

Agree. The US military is one institution you do not want to tamper with as the ultimate only protection for 300 million Americans. The gay problem is a total negative having absolutely nothing to do with so called civil rights by those do nothing but lambast it seeking to do internal and external damage via socialist engineering.
We see Americas police and fire and rescue protection services being dealt the same damages mainly by the unemasculated lesbian population.

The next big thing soon for the DNC will next be bringing their sicko dog and pony show to town for the real deal.
They will be demanding equal civil rights for pervs who are discriminated against for beatality.
Why do more libs own large dogs and ponys as pets anyway? Weird.

Anonymous said...

Libs want civil rights for beastalitists? They have been trying to make incest legal.

Dont forget the dogs and ponys too since depriving them of human sexual love and affection would be a violation of their civil rights too aka animal cruelty and abuse.

But maybe you could a little more in the way of content so people could connect with it better. Youve got an awful lot of text for only having one or two images. Maybe you could space it out better? seo company delhi
