Big Guy likely to pass on 8th District rematch

It's no surprise that a lot of Republicans are salivating over the new 8th Congressional District.

It's not the same district that has twice elected Democratic Rep. Larry Kissell. It still runs from Charlotte east. But now there's fewer Democrat-heavy, Mecklenburg County precincts and new, mostly Republican voters in Randolph, Davidson and Davie counties.

In 2008 Barack Obama carried the current district with more than 52 percent of the vote. Republican John McCain would have carried the newly configured 8th with almost 58 percent of the vote.

So far GOP state Reps. Jerry Dockham of Davidson County and Justin Burr of Stanly County as well as former Iredell County commissioner Scott Keadle have expressed an interest. Not on the list? Harold Johnson, aka "The Big Guy" from his years as a WSOC TV sportscaster.

In 2010 Johnson won a GOP primary but lost to Kissell. Now, he says, he's "probably not" going to run. And Johnson, a longtime Statesville resident who moved to Cabarrus County to run two years ago, has moved back to Statesville.

Kissell, by the way, already has announced that he'll run again.

4:25: correction made. Johnson ran in 2010, not 2008.

Doesn't that imbecile still actually live in Statesville?

Didn't Johnson run in 2010? Not 2008...

Why you tools waste your time and space in life commenting on a person that is not going to run, Larry Kissel is toast next year.

Harold Johnson isn't The Big Guy any more. He was sort of a local celebrity on WSOC, and people seemed to think of him as some sort of Sports Guru, but those days are long gone. He was a flash-in-the-pan candidate for public office, but now he's just another burnout with a decent haircut. Let him fade away into well-deserved obscurity.

Bring on Tim D'Annunzio! I'd rather vote D'Annunzio than Li'l Prince Chucklehead Justin Burr (ok, well not really, but at least D'Annunzio can pull off a mustache).

I'd love to see D'Nutzio run again. I sure had a lot of fun with that runoff.

All candidates for Congress should be forced to campaign in the nude.

Justin Burr will win the nomination. Once the GOP establishment saw the losers of the 2010 primary, they started grooming for the position way back then. I hate him, but him being a congressman is a foregone conclusion due to redistricting.

Justin Burr is a bailbondsman! Can you imagine us being represented by someone who makes his living getting criminals out of jail? LOL

So Harold has moved back to Statesville. Yet, Keadle, also of Iredell County wants to move here. Kay.

Give it up for L'il Prince Chucklehead who is already divorced at the oh so tender age of 26. Hmmmmm? I can't WAIT to dig through Justin Burr's garbage.

Guess that oh so awful fundraiser Kissell wins AGAIN against another pile of self funding WANNABES.

Hey to the big guy. Seen your FEC debt report lately? HA!

Li'l Prince Chucklehead winning is by far a foregone conclusion. That kind of defeatist thinking is one of the reasons the GOP is in the position it is in currently. His personal affairs don't concern me, it's his statist tendencies that I'm worried about. And let's not forget that awful mustache he tried to sport a few years ago.

Ha ha ha. Lil Prince Chucklehead. Good name! His ex wife, Dad, and all of Stanly County HS agrees.
