One Republican goes rogue on abortion bills

The battle lines among spectators were pretty clear at today's House hearing on a Senate abortion bill. They were even colorful: Pink-clad abortion rights activists on one side of the hearing room and blue-shirted abortion opponents on the other.

The lines between legislators were pretty clear as well. Republicans for the bill. Democrats against.

With at least one exception.

Freshman GOP Rep. Charles Jeter of Huntersville said he's inclined to not support, or concur, with the Senate bill. Abortion supporters say would limit women's rights; abortion opponents say it would ensure abortion facilities are safe. Both sides say if the bill passes, and is signed by Gov. Pat McCrory, only one abortion clinic in the state would meet the requirements.

Jeter said he thinks the proposed new standards for abortion clinics -- to match those of ambulatory surgery centers -- should apply to all places that do surgery, including dental offices. As for cutting the number of abortion clinics from 16 to 1: "I don't know how that makes women's health safer," he says.

Last week Jeter was one of only two Republicans to vote against a bill to include in school curriculums the belief that abortions could contribute to pre-term births in pregnancies.

"I didn't come up here to vote on social issues," he says. I came up here to get jobs back."

Accolades to Mr. Jeter. This is true leadership, not pandering.

Thank you, Mr. Jeter, for showing the courage of your convictions by opposing this "back alley" attempt to eliminate abortions in NC. (NOTE to Republicans: If you "Get Government Out of Our Lives" types would concentrate on our economy and infrastructure needs -- and stop your moralizing and judging others -- you'll find that plenty of Democrats and Independents will vote for you.

Thank you Mr. Jeter. The only GOPer with the guts to fight back. Nice going.

At least someone in Raleigh is staying true their campaign promises. This is the kind of leadership elected officials should provide, substance, not bickering and pandering.

Jeter, dares to buck his Teapublican masters? Tillis and Pope will have him banished to the back benches with the Democrats by next session. And how dare he suggest dental clinics be made as safe as abortion clinics. Bobby Rucho will be challenging him to a duel.

When the heterophobic satanic liberal New York media writes an editorial about NC and its horrible conservatives you know somebody is doing something extremely great.

Keep up the good work boys. McCrory may get a lifetime appointment if this keeps up. Somebody has to lead the way out of that filthy demonic homo train wreck in DC over 18 trillion in debt but still taking 100 million dollar vacations to Africa.

MCCRORY FOR PRESIDENT IN 2016

You're missing the point entirely. And so is Jeter. I've watched ambulances pull up to the clinic here in Charlotte and it was recently closed down for violations of CURRENT law. It reopened within two days. People tend to turn away with a wink and a nod when abortion clinics aren't up to muster for fear of limiting abortion rights. Who pays the price for that? The women this abortionist at A Preferred Woman's Health Center of Charlotte maims or mutilates. The woman who contracts a sexually transmitted disease from a tainted needle or dirty exam table. I'm not making this stuff up. It's real. This is the same abortionist who said, "If you love babies so much, why don't you adopt all these ugly black babies!" All abortionists are NOT equal. You are overgeneralizing a serious issue. When you have a racist abortionist running a dirty clinic and you have a skeleton staff to offer inspections only every five years, that's a problem for NC. Jeter may be right about his party being pro-life and voting along party lines. he was probably elected so that he would do the same. So why the turnaround? How is that "real leadership" and not pandering? Our legislators are supposed to be passing laws to keep us safe from harm. No one is forcing these clinics to close down. They have been operating in violation of basic standards for years already! Those who love abortion or see it as a necessary evil or whatever position you hold in support of it, please do something to regulate it. If that was being done, this bill would not have been necessary. I'm politically independent, but I have seen enough to assure myself this is something that will be good for NC.

"I didn't come up here to vote on social issues"

Oh really? So those are to be ignored REGARDLESS of your constituents desires? Rather irreponsible of you Mr. Jeter. The people work through you and you represent the people not your own agenda. Comprender? The people of NC Stand for Life! You have indicated you do not. Shame on you. Who will stand for the rights of the unborn? THE PEOPLE OF NC WILL! Get on the train or be left at the station.

Megan - you are missing the point! The point is that men in the legislature (or anywhere) should not be making decisions about women's bodies!!!! It is not about abortion clinics or your personal stance on abortion - it is about the conservative NC talking heads (McCrory and cronies) thinking that it is ok to force a far right conservative agenda down the throat of every citizen in the state of NC - no matter if it's abortion rights, women's rights, labor laws, taxes, cuts, or bills the repubs try to ram through in the middle of the night. What is happening in this state is not ok, and I cannot wait to get these idiots out of office. Or move out of this state! What an embarrassment NC has become under McCrory. There should be warning signs posted at the VA and SC border (although those states are not much better) WARNING: Unless you are a white, Christian, Republican, homophobic conservative - TURN AROUND NOW while you still have common sense!! Thank you representative Jeter for staying out of the morality business and not wasting time (on a frivolous bill) that could be better spent finding a solution to NC's high unemployment rate. Signed ~ Fed up!

I am Mariam used every single spell worker on the internet, spent untold amounts of money and discovered they are all fakes...i was the fool though; doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results. In the end, I decided that I wanted a tarot reading to know what my future held for me; I contacted a woman who lives locally to me and she told me about a man named (Priests Abija); he does not advertise on the internet, has another job for income, has no set prices, makes no false promises and refuses to help anyone that cannot be helped and even helps for free sometimes, he will give you proof before taking money. He is a wonderful man and he was the only person who actually gave me real results. I really hope he doesn't mind me advertising his contact on the internet but I'm sure any help/ extra work will benefit him.contact him here as +447053820826 or spirituallighthealing101@live.com He travel sometimes.i cant give out his number cos he told me he don’t want to be disturbed by many people across the world..he said his email is okay and he’ will replied to any emails asap, love marriage, finance, job promotion ,lottery Voodoo, poker voodoo, golf Voodoo,Law & Court case Spells, money voodoo, weigh loss voodoo, any sicknesses voodoo,Trouble in marriage,HIV AIDS,it's all he does Hope this helps everyone that is in a desperate situation as I once was; I know how it feels to hold onto something and never have a chance to move on because of the false promises and then to feel trapped in wanting something
more.
