Judge Bill Belk: 'I'm in it for the ride'

In his first interview about his unfolding case before the N.C. Judicial Standards Commission, Judge Bill Belk says the ordeal has been "painful."

Belk made his comments in a story published online today by The Charlotte Post. Defending his own actions, he criticized the commission for what he called leaks to the media and implied it had denied him due process. The commission charged him with violating a canon of the judicial code by continuing to sit on the board of Sonic Automotive.

“I went back, studied the canon, got legal advice and then I wrote a letter and asked what was the due process," he told the Post. "Really, this is all about due process because I didn't want to do anything behind closed doors. “I wanted to make sure I was doing the right thing."

Belk has consistently refused to talk to the Observer about the case.

"The system has to be addressed," he told the Post. "We have a lot of good judges and attorneys and they don't like this either. I'm in it for the ride. If I have to go to every paper that'll listen, if I have to go to every church... The reason why we're here is we want balanced judiciary. It's been very painful to go through what I've gone through."

He is such a loser...thinks he is above everything and everyone. Thanks to everyone who voted for this jerk.

Yes, you're right. It has been very painful-for all Charlotteans except you!

Bill Belk is an embarassment to himself, his family name, the bech, and the county To think that he is using the bench as a way to get even with Judge Thalheimer for presiding over his divorce. He doesn't even take this seriously. This entire ordeal since day one has been about him and his personal vendettas and rich kid tantrums instead of the best interest of the community, the bench, and this county. Health benefits? Please. Judges get health benefits (nevermind he has a bottmless inheritance). One of the benefits of being rich is being able to do what ever you want. It's sad that some of those people are so arrogant and spoiled, rather than using their fortunne for good and to make the world better.

Belk is terrible. It's beyond me how he is a judge.

What a joke.

I think we've found the source of the swine flu. Belk should be ashamed of himself dragging his decent family name through the mud like this.

All of you are losers. Find yourself in court one day over a petty criminal charge and witness the extent you receive due process. It's a biased system in there and you won't win, regardless of what evidence you have that supports your defense. The majority of the judicial system in Mecklenburg county is broken and controlled by private interests. I like this guy.

The headline should read "I'm in it for the money."

He doesn't really care about the judicial system. All he cares about is himself.

Belk doesn't give a flip about anyone but himself.

No wonder Belk had to go to the Charlotte Post for his first story about this ordeal - the Observer writes such a misleading headline!

Judge Belk was elected because he wanted to reform the court system and look what happens to him - he had a target on his back the day he was elected.

What about set-up don't you people get? Open your eyes!

You can't blame this loser on me. I have been struck in the past how many times I was expected to choose a candidate in a minor race while I lacked any knowledge of either candidate. I finally came up with a way to more intelligently vote: I got an absentee ballot and filled it out over about three days while looking each of the races up on the Internet.

Admittedly there is always the risk of media bias but the Internet is a big place. You can always look beyond what the Observer printed about a candidate, which is what I did.

It wasn't a perfect procedure but I was much better informed than I had ever been in the past. And as such, I voted for the incumbent rather than that loser Belk.

My candidate may not have won the election but at least I can honestly say it wasn't my fault.

Belk has Guts and knows the legal system is a "System". As a former employee with Mecklenburg County, I have seen the politics and special interests manipulate the budget so the courts don't get enough money to get enough attorneys and judges to process the accused instead of always "making a deal" with repeat offenders. Belk is not afraid to speak his mind but is almost always "partially quoted" in the press, which makes any matter seem completely left wing. People who are "Judges", make sacrifices by taking a huge pay cut and put in long hours and case loads that require overtime each day that is never paid back in money but the satisfaction that someone who cared... could make a difference. Its also because they are morally committed to insure that "Justice" is for every one. Not the Special Interest Groups who have the "Just Us" mentality. The Charlotte Observer will always "create" their side of a news story to make a sensation to sell papers. We would all like it if they just "Quoted" the "Entire" facts without trying to be a poor imitation of a scandal sheet. Most people believe what is in print, and think, it must be the truth. So you have a lot of people here who actually think this guy is responsible for all the problems the Observer reporters have blamed him personally for. Folks... politics never stops and thank goodness for the "Post" and other news sources that are not as biased by special Interests. My question to the readers, would you take a pay cut and work from morning to night and dedicate your life's work to help the "people", by making others follow the law in court? Quotes that are taken out of context are made up Lies to enhance a special interest's point of view. Surprising that no one posted their real name but "Anonymous". My real name is Christopher Brandon, Native of Charlotte and I am not a personal friend or business associate of the Judge.

A balanced Court? This became impossible when the NC Bar succeeded in having the Legislature pass the Law requiring District Court Judges be Attornies. Prior to this there were some fine "Lay" Judges. The courts are not about guilt or innocence but how you play the game, did you hire an attorney, who your attorney is and who did they support for the Judgeship. It's a good-old-boy & girl club. The fact that the Local Bar makes the recommendations to the Governor to fill a vacant Judgeship shows who wields the power over the bench.

I think that most of the people on here that are talking negatively about Judge Belk are probably the corrupt judges, attorneys, and friends of the court. Belk knows what he is talking and if one day some of you readers end up in court you will realize that Belk is right on the money.

Has wealthy white guy Bill Belk suddenly become a black man ? He has only spoken to the Black Political Caucus and now
The Charlotte Post. Is Rev. Al Sharpton next for Judge Belk.

What does Bill Belk and Pat McCrory have in common? They are both attached at the hip to that unstable Victoria Smith.
