New liberal party trying to get on N.C. ballot

Come November, N.C. voters may have another choice on their ballot: Democrats, Republicans, Libertarians -- and the North Carolina First party.

North Carolina First is billed as a progressive alternative for voters upset with the status quo in Washington. About 100 canvassers are circulating petitions to get the party on the ballot.

Spokesman Greg Rideout said they have about 10,000 of the 80,000 or so required signatures. He described the effort as an alternative for disgruntled progressives.

"We're going to have a place to go if they don't think they're getting their voice heard by either major party," he said. "(Washington) seems to only work for lobbyists and special interests, and in the meantime folks who want to be heard are not being heard."

The effort is backed by labor groups including the State Employees Association of North Carolina (SEANC) and the Service Employees International Union (SEIU).

Rideout, a former aide in the N.C. Justice Department, said the movement isn't aimed at any particular person or party. But if the effort does manage to get on the ballot, expect candidates in U.S. House races in Districts 7, 8 and 11. They're the homes of the three Democratic members of Congress who voted against their party's health care bill.

"It's a possibility that a North Carolina First candidate will show up there," Rideout said.

Probably a good idea since the Communist Party has taken over the Democrat Party.

Liberal Party? You've got to be kidding! If the current crop of Dems are not Libs what are they? These people are "off the scale" Liberals.

Look for the Observer to drop the full endorsement of the Dems and start courting the new Liberal Party soon.

I don't know anything about this new party, but you guys do realize that the current group in Washington is very conservative for a democratic party?

Like our democrats would be considered republicans in Canada and most of Europe.

It's nice to have many options. The whole idea of a 2 party system is idiotic.

The Democrat Party is imploding and will be humiliated in the fall. Libertarians are on the rise, but will only be elected nationally via taking over the Republican Party. The first post has it right, the Democrat Party has been taken over by Marx loving 60's radicals.

What a bunch of BS. They whine that special interests are running washington and the very next sentence says they're backed by special interest labor groups.

This is a party for people pissed the Democrats aren't giving out enough freebies.

Good luck getting on the ballot. The Demopublican duopoly in power hates competition. Thus, the barriers to entry.

There are a bunch of democrats and I mean a bunch that are very ticked off with Obama. He ran his election as a centrist, but went left after taking office. Many in his party are ticked he is not farther left, that there is not more soialization, as he is at the marxist stage now, but they want MORE facism-you know, gov-co owning MORE banks, MORE auto dealerships, and REQUIRING businesses, like oh, IBM, VERIZON, AT & T, etc, you know the ones who took the write down on healthcare, to have to FULLY ACCOUNT to them. In order words, the businesses remain 'private' but government runs them. Does any of this look familiar....as if this group is not stopped and stopped soon, this country will be FACIST which is COMMUNIST very shortly.
When you look at the damage and amount of Marxist policies Obama has implemented in just a little more than 1 year, what is this country going to look like by 2012?
IF we don't stop this, our freedoms are gone people. The more parties the more the vote is split, so I say let the party in, and it will dilute the Democratic party in November, which will be good for them NOT to be re-elected

problem is, the folk who will vote for these commies have no clue what the issues are. They are already on a gov-co handout of sometype. They will vote for the candidate that promoises them the most and that will be the 'new liberal party' that plans to take from the rich and give to them. They pay no taxes anyway, are the people who are sucking off society, and just want more and more and more which will collapse this country. This country will collapse very shortly and that is the liberal lefts plan.

Seriously, why don't the Democrats just change their names to one of these more suitable names: Socialist Party, Social Democrat Party, Communist Party, We Brake for Marx Party, Uncle Joe is our Homeboy Party, We Love Tyranny Party, Fascists are Us Party, King George was Right Party, GD America Party, We Agree with Mao Party, Persuasion of Power Party, Constitution Shredders R Us Party.
These are far more suitable.

Is this the Dem's answer to the "Tea Party?" Of course, the "First Party" will be portrayed as non-crazy, non-racist, and completely altruistic! Give me a break.

You do relize who the SEIU is targeting with this party dont you? NO well guaranteed they are working to get the party in so they can get a bunch of illegals to vote under false names to counter the force that will rock the current far left majority in this countries government. I would be suprised if they enlist disbanded acorn workers under a new group name.
These progressives are trying to march us straight into communism and old Barry O is getting his way. He by the way has had the president of SEIU andy stern to the whitehouse more than anyone else. The guy helped write the healthcare bill and the stimulus. So to say that the democrats are not liberal enough for them is a joke. they are trying to change thier name to leave the democrat party with the negative press on what they have already done and continue their takeover of this country under a new guise.

LOL, if the Dems are not liberal enough for you, it is time to join a commune and have your paycheck deposited in the "great leader's" account. Of course, if the current leftist party is not sufficiently liberal, I woudl imagine that the paychecks you receive come on the first of the month in the form of welfare.

Hilarious! The Liberal Party spokesman is fed up with the "special interests" and the party he's trying to start was conceived by union $$.

They aren't a special interest?

Just in case anyone is wondering what "Progressive" actually means:
it is a system designed to move our country beyond the Constitutional framework our Founders intended. It started with Teddy Roosevelt.
Now is the time for those who actually love this country to read what the Founders wrote.

Awesome! I was wondering where the black vote would go in a non-Obama year. Now they can both vote ACORN!

This is an effort to "clear the playing field" of democrats who don't vote w/ the progressives.
SEIU is the primary influence on the agenda that is being implemented in Washington today. Andy Stern from SEIU is the #1 visitor to the White House. There is so much information available in print and video that reveal the connection between those in power and SEIU. Remember the townhall protests and the call from the president to hit back twice as hard against the dissentors? It was SEIU who beat up Kenneth Gladney, a black man selling flags outside a townhall protest, and Seiu roughed up several other people at other meetings, it is all on video if you wish to research. The next elections will certainly be a circus, and may be irrelevant anyway.

How about the Logicratic Party?

Remember, the 'two party system' is the ONE EVIL that has WAY too much control over us ALREADY! THEY are the ones who PREVENT EQUAL BALLOT ACCESS!

More political options at the voting booth is a very good thing!

Apparently some of you Einsteins do not realize that Fascists and Communists are mortal enemies. Obama can be one or the other, but not both. Make up your minds.

Pretty sure Obama's preference is Marxism. The Democrat Party, however, is populated with all types of isms. That is most likely the reason why there is a split going on. One thing is for certain, they all agree that government is the answer to everything.

More choices on the ballot box is never a bad thing. The worse election is when there is only one name on the sheet.

It's the corporatocracy stupid!

I think we need to stop pointn fingers folks and just get right down to the issues...I think more attentions been gettin paid to the drama more than what they stand for. Just remember folks this is the biggest gap between the Wealthy and the middle class since 1928, being followed by the Great Depression in 1929. Somebody's funds need to get broken up if they want this country to keep goin.(And they're hidin real quiet in the shadows) Stop all the breaks for corporate greed and alot of this corruption will be tackled.
